How is Skyfall a product of its time?

- Outline how gender, terrorism, criminality and sexuality are represented differently in Skyfall compared to earlier entries in the Bond franchise.

Gender:
  • In the earlier bond films such as Thunderball, males were seen as slightly more inferior to women, in a sense that they could get away with sexualising and using the women. This was commonly shown through Bond being uninvited by the women but still managing to have his way and sleep with them. Where as in later films such as Skyfall, Bond is more respectful. Although he is still flirtatious and suggestive towards the women, bond only seduces the women when invited to, rather than always just getting his way.
Terrorism:
  • In the earlier bond films such as Thunderball, terrorism takes a whole team (organisation) working together to actually achieve anything. Where as in the later bond films like Skyfall, terrorism is mainly dominated by Cyberterrorism. This is shown through the character of Silva who managed to control terrorism through just his very own computer system. In the earlier bond films meeting as an organisation could easily be found and recognised by the police, where as in the later films through the scenes with silva the terrorism takes place secretively and would be hard to shut down.
Sexuality:
  • In earlier bond films such as Diamonds are forever, gay's were referred to stereotypically through campuses and things such as perfume. Where as in the later bond films like Skyfall, characters like Silva is someone who may be gay but someone who you wouldn't mess with (he isn't a figure of fun, he also challenges the typical stereotypes.
